17 – Unity Consciousness

We know that reframing is a matter of looking at something in a new way or from a different point of view such that its meaning changes. We have been using the word reframing but we are simply talking about the conscious and deliberate choosing of the thoughts we think.  However, it is not enough to simply change your frame (thought) to anything you want.  A more nuanced background of understanding is required.  There are criteria that need to be met.  There is a correct way and an incorrect way. Most people never discover the correct way and so they either invalidate the power of “positive thinking” or they invalidate themselves. We will continue to get into specifics but first we need a broader understanding or contextual framework for “positive thinking.”

Positive thinking should not be seen as merely a “good idea.”  It should be seen as necessary and it should be applied pragmatically.  Without deliberate and methodical practice, the benefits of positive thinking will remain elusive to you.  It would also be unproductive for you to relate to positive thinking as something you use to slap a happy face on your unchangeable and unwanted circumstances in life.  Positive thinking is not about lying to yourself to avoid the truth of a matter.  Most people who practice positive thinking are merely going through the motions of saying positive words to themselves. Because they don’t understand the subtleties, they are doing it wrong.  If you do something incorrectly, it certainly won’t work.

It can take months or even years for most people to learn how to do positive thinking correctly.  Most people won’t generate the character and patience to stick with it. Sometimes this is because they do not have all the information they need to learn it.  It doesn’t work and so they quit or settle for a watered- down version of positive thinking.  This is useful for you to know because if you know it, you won’t be looking for a quick fix.   Knowing this may also help to raise your confidence in the power of  positive thinking.  To know that it actually takes something and that many of the people who have promoted it don’t really understand it can make you realize that you may not really understand it yet yourself.   If you have attempted positive thinking before with no success, you may now have a clue as to why you didn’t stick with it and make it work for you.  You can now start again with a beginner’s mind.

Positive thinking could be re-labelled as true thinking as I will attempt to demonstrate later in this post.  This way of thinking is entirely learnable.  When understood and practiced correctly, it brings you closer to a state we may call unity consciousness.  Being in a state of unity consciousness unlocks your natural ability to create and manifest yourself and your life as you desire.  Unity consciousness, as we are using it, is when the 3 main aspects of your consciousness (thought, emotion and action) are completely congruent with each other and the Truth (as we have defined it in previous posts.)

When your thoughts, emotions and actions are incongruent with each other, you will be limited in your ability to live in harmony with life.  Shouldn’t your ability to create the life you desire be natural to you?  A lack of unity in your consciousness will create needless struggle and suffering.  Holding opposing thoughts in the mind, regardless of whether these thoughts are conscious to you or not, will manifest in your life as an experience of being stopped or slowed down in whatever it is you intend to create.  It will have you make unproductive choices repeatedly that sabotage your own will, siphoning your innate power.

Throughout antiquity, the same story has been told multiple times.  It is the story of God the father impregnating a virgin mother to produce a male son.  Most people know this as the story of Jesus but you may not know that the same story has been told throughout history again and again.  Some examples would include Horus, Attis, Dionysos, Romulus and Remus who were all said to be born of virgin mothers. Regardless of whether you believe these events occurred in actuality or not, the story itself aligns perfectly with the principle of unity consciousness and so it may serve as a useful analogue.

The 3 main aspects of our consciousness are represented in virgin-birth stories as follows:

  1. Thought is represented by God the father
  2. Emotion is represented by the virgin mother
  3. Action is represented by the male son (which is ultimately a synthesis of the father and the mother)

The idea here is that when our thoughts are correctly harmonized with Truth, there are emotional indicators that let us know that our thinking is correct.  When our thinking is correct it produces positive emotional feedback to let us know that we are on track with the deepest desires and aspirations of our soul, our inner guidance or the Will of Source.  It doesn’t matter which words you use to describe this phenomenon as long as you understand the essence of what is occurring such that you can actually use it.  Whatever wording empowers you is fine so long as you actually apply and benefit from it.

Some call this phenomenon our emotional guidance system.  We may hear phrases like, “Follow your heart.” While others refer to this as a gut feeling or intuition.  The idea of a gut feeling implies that human beings have some kind of guidance system or feedback mechanism built into them that gives important information.  Why would so many of the most successful people in the world be so adamant about following their gut feeling unless it actually works?  Where did this concept of a gut feeling come from?  I certainly didn’t learn about it in school.  I had to seek out successful mentors who could enlighten me on the subject and then it still took practice over many years. I discovered for myself that this intuitive ability is very real.  I now know for myself that it is a learnable skill one may develop but only if one  cultivates the desire, character and willingness to learn it over time.

Once our thoughts are more aligned with Truth and we feel the positive emotion that comes with these thoughts, True action will naturally flow out of our state of being which, in turn, produces positive outcomes in the physical world.  Is this really so hard to believe? For most, the answer is yes! It is very difficult for most people to believe this because they are hearing it from a point of view born out of a disconnect from the Truth. Because you are likely already programmed with language, meaning and belief systems that oppose this reality, it is difficult to trust these ideas. This is why you must develop a desire to learn so that you may begin to experience your intuition and its results yourself.   Eventually this information will make more sense to you because you will begin to see evidence of it in your life.  If you stick with it and remain willing, you will get it with time and practice.

It is our intention to continue to make deeper and more precise distinctions about these ideas.  All this is being done in good time.  The barriers we may experience on the path to reaching this kind of alignment between our thoughts, emotions and action are numerous in quantity and quality, yet they are all discernable and transcendable.  They are only a mystery until they have been de-mystified.  The barriers you will face in bringing your thoughts, emotions and actions into unity must be revealed layer after layer over time.  The loudest barrier acts as a bottleneck that needs to be transcended to elevate you into the next state of awareness.

When you have overcome one barrier, your new awareness begins to orchestrate circumstances and situations to help reveal to you your next barrier until all barriers have been transcended.  This process takes time.  This is why it is important to continually revisit and reflect on True Principles and Axioms and to reread this blog again and again.  You will be a new person with new experiences and reference points with each exposure to this information.  You will have different challenges you will be looking to solve after you solve the ones you have currently.  Let go of the idea that you need to understand everything right now.

Simply embrace the new insights and cognitions you are experiencing now.  You will never get there and finally be finished.  You are always getting it more deeply.  The elevation of your own consciousness could be seen as a mountain with no top, so it is best to learn to love climbing. Be open to new insights about this information and remember to participate actively as you read this blog.  Everyone may be deserving of success, but no one is entitled to it.  Success takes effort. If it didn’t take effort, it wouldn’t be as valuable.  However, the effort doesn’t have to be a struggle. To master these principles you must simply engage in the correct practices, consistently over time.  Again, there is no escaping this so decide for yourself that you will embrace the journey.

Unity Consciousness and The Truth

The Truth as I am using it in this blog could be seen as synonymous with the words God, Source and Reality.  As you read, you may begin to see the benefit of interchanging these words. It may benefit you to consider that any insights you have about one of these words could be applied to the others as well.  Also, keep in mind that we are not talking about a man in the sky or any other specific religious or new age notion about God.  It is important to keep being aware of the filters through which you are hearing these words.  Try to hear what is being said newly instead of comparing it to what you already think you know. Continue to be responsible for the unconscious frames that could hinder your understanding of the intended meaning being conveyed here.

That being said, take a moment to reflect on my earlier statement: All conflict, both internal and external, begins with a disconnect from the Truth (Reality/Source/God.) It is not sufficient or even possible to have the 3 aspects of your consciousness (thought, emotion and action) be truly congruent with each other without being congruent with the Truth as well.  This is because you cannot hold thoughts (consciously or unconsciously) that are incongruent with the Truth without feeling some degree of this incongruence within yourself.  Your intuition informs you of this incongruence through negative emotion.  You could certainly ignore your negative feelings and act anyway but this is still a departure from unity in one’s consciousness.

If your thoughts are untrue, your feelings (intuition) will indicate this with some degree of negative emotion.  You may not notice the negative emotion as the indicator that it is because you are so used to negative emotion.  The negative emotion is there because you are holding a thought that is in opposition to the Truth you know somewhere deep within you.  Think about it.  When you hold negative thoughts about yourself, don’t you also have (somewhere deep within you) at least a desire to love yourself.  The presence of negative emotion always indicates that you have opposing thoughts occurring at the same time.  If you are holding untrue thoughts, you won’t be able to get your thoughts and emotions aligned because having two incongruent thoughts in opposition with each other will cause you to feel negative emotion.  This is why true unity consciousness requires harmony with Truth.

Similarly, you cannot have a desire to have a successful business and doubt your ability to be successful at the same time.  Even if the doubtful thoughts are not conscious to you, they still impact you.  This is why it is so important to become aware of these unconscious thoughts by paying attention to your feelings.  Being honest with yourself about your feelings and learning to effectively deal with them is required to create harmony in your thinking because to ignore your feelings is to ignore incongruence of your thinking.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”  – Carl Jung

Opposing and contradictory thoughts must be reconciled before success will manifest in your life. There are many practices and methods you can learn to get your thinking right.  It doesn’t happen overnight.  It takes time to become conscious of your thought patterns and learn to change them.  It takes a willingness and focus to do this kind of work which is why you must be training yourself all the time.  As you learn various methods that work, you add them to your tool belt.  You become more proficient at changing your thoughts at will.  You will also find many useful books on our Foundational Book List at www.FamilyUnicityNetwork.com that will help you hone these skills.  None of these books are 100% perfect but you will gain much insight from them if you use discernment as you practice applying your insights actively.

Considering all that has been said in this blog so far, the idea of unity consciousness implies not only a unity in your thoughts, emotions and actions but with Reality (Truth, God, Source) as well.  The one and only reason a person fails to realize their ability to purposefully and consciously create the life they desire is that their thinking is not in harmony with Reality (Truth, Source, God.)  Instead, one habitually acts from thoughts and emotions that are out of whack with each other and Reality.  If you are lying to yourself and ignoring reality, your inauthenticities are already manifesting in your life.  Your life is filled with actions, but these actions are not producing the results that the authentic Self truly desires.

A perfect example would be the person who has a “great” idea for a product or service that, in reality, no one actually needs or wants.  They become obsessed with their idea. They invest time and money into their project just to fail in the end.  The reality they ignored was that no one actually wanted that product or service.  If this person had been paying attention, their feelings would have given them indicators that this was not the right path for them.  They would have seen the false motivation (their why)  that was driving their action.

Another equally perfect example would be the person who spends all their time smoking pot and playing video games as a means of escape.  They know there are things they ought to be doing but they choose to escape instead, ignoring and avoiding their deepest feelings.

The people in these examples do not have their thoughts, feelings and actions aligned correctly and so the life they truly desire continues to elude them.   People whose thoughts and emotions are in true unity don’t organize their lives in ways that waste all their time.  They use their time and attention to create the lives they are called to create.  They certainly take planned breaks to rest, relax and recharge their batteries but when they do expend their energy, they do so in ways that are productive. They understand which motivations to follow and which ones not to follow because they are false paths.   They are confident that they are forwarding their life’s purpose and moving in the direction that they truly desire.  They are confident because they are choosing their own thoughts and listening to what their emotional guidance (intuition) is telling them about their thoughts.

So many people are taking actions in their lives and failing to produce the results they desire.  Most people confuse activity with accomplishment.  They confuse “relief from pain” with actual fun, peace, joy, etc….  If you were to hit your hand repeatedly with a hammer, it would be very painful. Just because you stop hitting your hand with that hammer, doesn’t mean your hand feels good now.  All you have is “less pain.”  If you want to really feel good, you must stop pursuing relief from pain and set your sights on what you truly desire to create, instead of focusing on what you want to avoid.
